Método: 20 indivíduos (10 homens) participaram do estudo.

Abstract

Introduction: Patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis often develop cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal complications that directly affect their cardiopulmonary functional capacity. Objective: To analyze the cardiopulmonary function capacity with the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) in patients with chronic renal failure on dialysis treatment. Method: 20 subjects (10 men) participated in this study. Cardiopulmonary functional capacity was assessed by the 6MWT. Descriptive statistics were used to show the mean and standard deviation of the variables. Data were analyzed by paired Student t test comparing the absolute values obtained with the 6MWT and the predicted values by the equation of Iwama et al. (2009). Results: There were significant differences between the values of the walk distance in the 6MWT and values predicted by Iwama et al. 2009. Conclusion: The research verified that there is a significant reduction in the cardiopulmonary functional capacity in patients with chronic renal failure on dialyses treatment.
